The design of the G House is inspired by the old house existing on site. The existing structure is expanded to wrap around it, and extruded one floor up to shelter the areas required by the Owners. The expanded parts are treated with sliding wood louver panels used to protect the rooms or the external spaces and balconies. The final result is a smart twist between traditional and contemporary architecture, while the existing becomes “now you see it now you don’t”.
Furthermore, being slightly elevated from the main road, the roof of the existing house is used as the Residence’s Main Entrance with a striking free central see through view to the sea when the door windows are folded and parked sideways. As such, the left and right wings remain independent, in line with the Owners’ request to assign them for the kids.
A footbridge ensures the access to the house from the main road.

Our Solution

We designed it as a drawbridge remotely controlled by the Owners who can retract it to the vertical position when no entry is allowed. The small mirador in the prolongation of the bridge frames the architectural composition and concludes the fun.
